Community members in Forsyth County are stepping up to help create a long-term housing solution for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the Keystone Village project.

The nonprofit initiative, founded by Cumming residents Beth Burns and Tammy Miller, both adoptive mothers of children with special needs, aims to provide affordable, long-term residential care in a supportive community setting.

The planned development will accommodate approximately 90 residents and span more than 76,000 square feet. Located off Ga. 400 at Settingdown Road, the project will include a community center with meeting rooms for residents, counselors, and families, as well as spaces for socializing, dining, exercise, arts and crafts, and other daily activities.

Strong Fundraising Momentum

Support for Keystone Village continues to grow. The organization recently surpassed its initial fundraising goal of $250,000, raising a total of $258,000 during a February gala.

In addition, more than $1 million has already been raised toward the project’s estimated $17 million total cost, an encouraging sign of strong community backing.

A needs survey conducted earlier revealed that several hundred individuals expressed interest in this type of housing, highlighting a significant gap in available resources.

“There’s a real need for this kind of community,” Burns noted. “For individuals with these disabilities, there is a housing crisis, and not nearly enough options currently exist.”

Partnership Brings Awareness

Keystone Village has also gained increased visibility through a partnership with Connor Tomlinson and his mother, Lise Smith, who were featured on the Netflix series Love on the Spectrum.

The pair participated in a meet-and-greet event on March 15 at Cherry Tree Brewpub, helping raise additional funds and awareness for the project. Their involvement is expected to continue, with potential appearances at future events.

“The wonderful thing about Connor and his mom is how passionate they are about supporting our mission,” Burns said. “They’ve been incredible partners in helping us spread the word.”

Looking Ahead

Construction for Keystone Village is expected to begin in 2026 as fundraising efforts continue.

Upcoming events will also support the initiative, including a Family Fiesta Night scheduled for April 24 at Cumming Baptist Church, which will feature Connor Tomlinson.

With growing community support and increasing awareness, Keystone Village is steadily moving closer to becoming a much-needed resource for individuals and families in the region.
